When we moved out of our house a year ago we sold a ton of our furnishings because:

A.) it’s easier than moving them

B.) I wanted an excuse to redecorate

We were in temp (cramped) housing so we needed small furniture. My 1.5 and 3.5 had to share a room so I needed a crib and a twin to fit in a tiny bedroom. So Ikea’s Minnen bed to the rescue. It was perfect. Until they slept terribly together and no one got any sleep if they were in same room and my 3.5 year old had to bed hop into our room and it went empty for 6 months of our build. But I bought it also because down the road I wanted two of the Minnen bed together in one room. I’m going to share my original Pinterest inspo but don’t judge how much cuter it looks here.

7780efe9ccdd90bd2d99e75c3c0e84b7I mean seriously, this is what dreams are made of and having a cute room like this guarantees your kids will sleep through the night every night, right?

So we moved into our new house where everyone had their own rooms. Pretty amazing. I’m pretty sure my youngest, C, is going to grow up and either be the most competitive person we all know or she is going to be one of those people that is obsessive over someone and wants to become them. Either way, she wanted B’s bed and would only nap or sleep at night in her bed. Both of my children have gotten out of cribs and into big girl beds around 18 months so i didn’t think anything about it and my husband does what any good husband would do that wants to sleep in his own bed, uninterrupted he drives 4 hours south to Atlanta one morning at 4 am to get C her own Minnen bed just like big sister. We remove crib and set up bed and think finally this is gonna do it.

Nope. Not only did she want B’s bed, she wanted the whole damn room. After a lot of begging and pleading B gave into her ways and let her have it.

A couple months ago, hubs and I were ready for a big kid bed of our own. Sleeping in a queen for people our size isn’t comfortable so we got our selves a new bed and moved our queen into B’s room so she could have her own big girl bed, finally allowing me to move my two Minnen’s into one room. So excited!  Remember erase the adorable room above that I was inspired by, we had to recycle old bed linens. Those will be next!

It’s hard to tell from this angle but I do have one (against the wall) pulled all the way out into a twin and the other one is shortened to allow more play room. Its longer than a crib mattress but shorter than a twin.

This is such a great bed for kids transitioning out of cribs because when pushed together the scrolls touch making it nearly (notice nearly) impossible to fall out yet it is still super stylish. We actually bought one of these in the bargain section of Ikea for around $60 too which was even more amazing. I plan to a spray these a crazy fun color when we update rooms.

Ive always said in my next life I want to design and decorate nurserys and kids rooms. There is something so sweet about them. So a tiny piece of my heart breaks knowing cribs are packed, toddler beds are packed and they are eventually going to tell me the want Minion sheets, not Minnen. Which will make me feel like I failed as a mother.

Grey Polka Dot Sheets  is the only thing still available in Stores

The pink Antique Chic duvet cover and the grey quilt aren’t available anymore but below is what they looked like on website

The black sheets were a clearance find at Target for like $10 and obviously no where to be found!

Last night my sis Becka and I headed out for a crazy night out on the town. Well kind of,  we went to the Preview Show for Porter Flea.  This was my first time and I was beyond stoked. http---cdn.evbuc.com-images-21996069-58618274593-1-original.jpg.png

We got there as the doors were opening (I’m always on time when I know I get a childfree night out, thanks hubs). And much to our surprise parking was a breeze and the line was short.

After having our ID’s checked, because to most its probably unclear on whether or not we are 21 (thanks Rodan+Fields) we headed inside and were kindly greeted by cans of Jackalope beer and an adorable bag from Jenis to carry our loot. What do I love more than shopping for homemade goods?  Shopping with booze for homemade goods. Winning. And we are off….20160729_181242.jpg

There were some amazingly adorable booths set up. All kinds of goods like kids clothing, jewelry, art, flowers, leather goods, furniture, shoes. You name it and they had it! At times I felt like i was walking through a Parisian Market (or what one would who has never been to Paris would think a Parisian Market would look like). Check out these paper flowers by Amaranthus

I forgot to mention they had amazing local vendors with food and beautiful tables capes! We started out with a cookie each from Littlest Love Bakery. I tried to split one but Becka wasn’t having it. Looking back Becka was right for once. I didnt want to share that little slice of heaven it was the perfect blend of sweet and salty.   Also If I ever throw myself a birthday party this is the theme. Think lots of gold, pineapples, palm leaves, pink, and black and white. Invites to go out soon.20160729_195348.jpg

After we grabbed our cookie we headed outside for food trucks. I am an avid follower of all things food truck. Looking for a good time? Find where the food trucks hang and good time   is guaranteed.

Outside there were even more adorable vendors like Amelia’s Flower Truck in fun airstreams and old trucks. 20160729_200155.jpg

I didn’t even get a picture of our amazing burger or the name of the truck. Blood sugar was plummeting and we were hangry. But it was the best.

Check out the goodies i scored! #ihaveathinkforblackandwhite It’s a problem and I can’t stop. #cantstopwontstop

  • This Loves That adorable cross body bag or clutch and a tassle key chain. So in love with those prices too.
  • The Magpie Co had adorable kids clothing and will now be my new go to. Check out those bloomers, do they come in my size? Because these leg rolls would look adorbs in them.
  • Love & Lion temporary tats. Even more fun in person. So I left with donuts because who doesn’t want a donut tattoo. Hopefully I love it on so much I take it to the tattoo parlor to let them trace it for my first tattoo. Sorry mom.

So what are your plans for the rest of the day? Id hurry and get to Porter Flea before you miss all the good stuff. There is def something for everyone there.

So if you aren’t aware, last week  IG  made it available for profiles to be categorized as either a personal (what it has always been) or you could make the change over to business account. The internet is going batty over the fact that Instagram is going to limit your visibility as a business so a lot of people aren’t buying into the switch. Remember FB and IG are siblings and FB makes business pages ability to organically reach its tribe very difficult.

Well as soon as my update to business button was there I jumped with two feet ready to see what everyone was talking about. I made the switch on July 19th. Prior to making the switch my previous 25 posts averaged 182 likes each. Since making the switch, the 8 posts I have posted at the same time and using same hashtag strategy my previous posts average 112 likes. Hmmm. Now in Instagram’s defense they have had some bugs since the switch. Hashtags weren’t working for 2-3 days, top posts weren’t updating, and then it appeared as IG said on Twitter “a small amount” of users apps have a bug and you need to delete and reinstall. They are obviously having some growing pains so before I make a permanent decision as to what direction I am going to go, i’ll give it more time and enjoy the analytics that come with it. I’m such a numbers nerd so I am loving every bit of the data that comes with this.

Before the switch I would head on over to Iconosquare Pro to check out my numbers and help develop my strategy. It gave me decent information and appeared to be accurate, but coming from a third party you never know and truthfully I want to know who my audience is, not just when they are active.

Heres a peak at what you get with a business profile:

Untitled design-2

Untitled design-2

Impressions: the total number of times all of your posts have been seen.

Reach:The number of unique accounts that have seen any of your posts.

So while my likes and comments have gone down since switching over to a business account it is obvious it is still getting out in front of people. (see individual picture below)

One of the main differences in analytics between 3rd party and IG is I’m able to tell WHO my audience is. I knew I was heavy on the women side but I would have never thought they were so close in proximity to me. Since the majority of my business is done online and we operate in US and Canada (soon to be AUS) I’m not focused on local as much as a brick and mortar business should be. But I love Nashville and Nashville apparently loves me!Untitled design-2In addition to general analytics of account you can even dive deeper into each individual post. Here is a picture a couple days old. Majority of comments come within the first 6 hours so this picture won’t get much more action. I had around 4300 followers at the time of this picture.  Check out this image I made using #Diptic.

So only a week and and plenty of time to jump ship, what are you going to do?

This country was built on the idea of entrepreneurship and yet growing up in the 80’s and 90’s (stop doing the math) I don’t ever remember being told by my parents, teachers, or coaches that entrepreneurship was a solid career choice for a woman. I was told to go to college, get a job, and work my way up the corporate ladder for 50 years then retire. So obviously that was the path I took obediently.

I was on track until my first daughter was born. I worked in a male dominated industry and upon the announcement of my pregnancy the bets against me returning to work began. I don’t lose, it’s just not in my nature so naturally I came back to work as soon as my maternity leave ended and began climbing that ladder again, just this time things were different. The day my daughter was born a new person in side of me was born. Dreams and aspirations came alive that I honestly had no idea where even buried inside me. I no longer wanted to work those 10 hour days with a 2+ hour commute to then only see my newborn for an hour before bed. There had to be another way. I stayed on course drawn out for me for 18 months after she was born. Plugging away. It wasn’t until I found out I was pregnant with my second baby girl that I finally had to courage to walk away from the “safe” life we had created.

Enter SAHMing. Wow. Little different than what I was expecting.  Once I managed to get a grip on this new gig with 2, I began searching for something that would help me provide for my family and keep my mind active while keeping me home. And Modern Day Moguls was born.  It has provided my part time hours, with full time pay potential. I work from home at nap time and around their schedules. More important than all of that though,  it give me an identity and purpose away from being a mom while feeding my creative soul. Sounds like a dream job, doesn’t it? Once I started to change my mindset about what work actually looks like I was able to soar and dream so much bigger. I don’t have to sit in a cubicle or be a road warrior to be successful.

I am all about the online businesses right now. They provide freedom and flexibility and while everyone is out there moaning about screen time being bad for kids I want to embrace our technologies and teach my girls how to make it work for us. I’d like you to introduce you to OUR newest baby, Our Hamper . While they are only 2 and 4 and I will most likely be taking the lead of this for awhile I know it takes time to build businesses and I want this to be something they can eventually take the lead on. So we are starting here and they will help when they can. Then we are going to take money earned and reinvest it in things they need. (Don’t worry, we are still donating a ton of stuff and giving to our friends and family)

Here are the girls  dropping off their first sales!

So we plan on skipping the lemonade sales and planning on taking the e-commerce world by storm. Hope you join along for the ride.

We all know having an active social media presence is important for business but sometimes trying to figure out where to start is hard. I’m a one woman show with the occasional help of a VA so I can’t be everywhere at once nor do I feel like I need/want to be. I created my Instagram account in Oct of 2015 so I’m a newbie on this account at 9 months old. It’s been slow and steady but whats more important than anything else is its authentic and real. My engagement rates are over 2x the industry standard and I love that. What’s even more impressive than that is that it is the leading force of website traffic for me. Screen Shot 2016-07-06 at 10.20.43 AM

Being a one woman show I need people to work for me and as shown above IG is my best employee to date and I’d also like to note that this is after the dreaded algorithm has taken place. It is rocking and rolling sending people to my site to introduce them to my amazing products and the business that allows me to live out my dreams while being home with my babes.

So here are a couple tips to make IG start working for you.

  1. Spruce up your photography skills. There are so many online tutorials to make sure you are taking the best photos your phone/camera allows (95% of my photos were taken from my Samsung Note 4. I recently upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S7 and can already tell a difference in my quality)
  2. Download VSCO and figure out a recipe for your edits. You want cohesion. Need ideas? Check out my Pinterest board for what I mean. Aesthetics wins every time on IG, make it appealing.
  3. Need a call to action. I am always sending people to my website for either a giveaway, new blog post etc. Give people a reason to click the link in bio. This link is good until the 10th. Go enter!!!!

So I’d love to hear how you are going to turn IG into another employee. Leave a comment below.
