This Holiday Home Tour Office Edition is brought to you by Carpet and Rug Institute. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
One of the rooms we spend a lot of time working on projects, shooting content, creating blogs, and school work is my home office. It’s also the only room I don’t feel the need to consult anyone in regards to decor and design. This pushes me to step out of the box a bit more in this room than other rooms.
Remember that time I was trying to save money by painting my office walls myself? But then I fell off the ladder sending a gallon of black paint flying across my room. Not only did I spill a gallon of paint on carpet, I also broke a plantation shutter and a Mac desktop. Come to find out, it would have been cheaper to hire a painter. But man was it worth it seeing how cozy this room turned out. I did change up the carpet and ended up going with one that had a little more texture. And I absolutely love the pattern.
Reasons We Love Carpet
Cozy– Carpet was such an easy choice in this room because I knew it would be a central working/collaboration spot for our family. Seeing that carpet is soft, warm and cozy underfoot it makes hanging out in here so easy. Warm and cozy is important during these cooler months. Most of the time when I am working, the girls are laying on the floor working or color and the dog is right next to them.
Noise reduction – Carpet helps reduce the pitter patter of little feet making it easier to work in here.
Healthy living – by improving indoor air quality, carpet supports healthier spaces for living for everyone – including people with asthma and allergies.
Easy maintenance – I did go with a pretty bright white carpet color so that I could layer my vintage turkish rugs on top to provide a pop of color. This is very important when you like to change up decor as often as I do. A lot of people thought I was crazy for going so light with kids and a dog. But maintaining and cleaning your carpet is easy. We don’t do shoes in the house so that def helps. Also the CRI recommends regularly vacuuming your carpet, spot cleaning when necessary, and having your carpets professionally cleaned once a year.
My evergreen velvet couch was the perfect color to work around when designing my Christmas theme. My office is located at the front of the house and has the largest set of windows, so naturally I knew a tree needed to be in here for the holidays. And if you were here last year, you might remember I went with a black Christmas tree. I have always had a mad love affair with black and white, but for some reason this black tree has always made me doubt myself.
I started looking through ornaments to see what colors I already had. Then I let the girls go crazy with sharpies on some white ceramic ornaments. I wanted them to know they contributed while still matching my theme and I am obsessed with how these ornaments came out. Last year I used a lot of feathers to fill in. This year I went with dried palm leaves I had laying around.
When you have two daughters, pink is usually included in most themes. So knowing black, pink, and green were going to be colors I needed a way to turn this into a Christmas workspace. Adding in some burgundy helped tie in red colors of Christmas.
Best part, my valentines balloon garland is ready to go. All I have to do is remove the green and we are good to go.
