Where are my kindergarten moms? Now that some of you have a few weeks of Kindergarten under your belt, I want to share something with you that no one cared to mention before our first day. To be blind sighted isn’t even accurate description. In fact it wasn’t even on our radar. What to do and what home remedy for head lice are needed on hand for when they hit.
What am I talking about?
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LICE
LICE
Thank you Licefreee! for working with me on this post and helping out mamas everywhere!
Yep, you heard that right. I was prepared to handle my overly exhausted kindergartener. I was prepared for the on set of signatures and checks I would be writing. Early mornings and getting ready were planned well in advance. But one thing no one mentioned was how to prevent and treat lice when they happened. And they will happen.
It went something like this. I had a night out with friends planned. Most likely to celebrate the fact that we are thriving and surviving kindergarten. My husband was on bedtime duty and apparently it was also laundry day. So he did what most would do and just put the girls to bed in our bed with no sheets on the bed. He had also just had knee surgery so I’ll give him a break. But stop and think about that for a moment.
I get home from girls night and crawl into our bed with my sweet angels. The next morning girls comes down and I instantly knew something wasn’t right. She couldn’t stop scratching. Upon examination, it was confirmed that we had a case of head lice. This was when panic set in. Naturally my first inclination was to shave it all off. Once I became sane, I hit up google for what to do next.
I wasn’t prepared. I didn’t have my shelves stocked with a single home remedy for head lice. A lady came out to my house and had to comb through each family members hair until they were gone. This was a several hour escapade and I am probably still making payments on that credit card charge. It was not cheap.
So once that happens you of course figure out how to never allow this to happen again. And that’s when I stumbled upon Licefreee! , a home remedy for head lice. I felt like this wasn’t something I could keep from my e-besties even though I have a feeling my daughter will hate this post in 5 years.
Lice Info
- Lice love clean hair. While your first inclination is to never wash your hair again. I am just telling you this because most people assume lice = dirty. And that’s not the case.
- Lice are transferred by direct contact. Seriously there is a rise of lice in HS, due to selfie taking. Stop the selfies.
- Sharing isn’t caring. When our outbreak happened, we had one hair brush in the house. Let that sink in for a minute. This includes hats, scarves, etc. Everyone gets their own!
Ways to Prevent
- Hair buns, braids etc.
- Don’t share brushes, pillows, etc.
- Let school know when there is an outbreak so they can inform other parents
- Hairspray
What to do When Lice Strike
- Wash all bedding and clothing in hot water or run through the dryer on hottest setting for 30 mins.
- Soak all hair car items like brushes and clips for 15 mins in hot water.
- Vacuum the get rid of all lice dust and egg shells left behind.
- Periodic Rechecks

Home Remedies for Head Lice for You and Your House
Licefreee Spray
The unique lice and nit treatment uses a natural, homeopathic solution that contains sodium chloride, aka salt. Fast and easy to use, just apply Licefreee Spray! and it starts killing SUPER LICE and nits on contact. Allow the head lice spray to dry naturally, no rinsing or washing is needed. Once hair has dried, you may then resume regular hair washing. Some the suggestions on the internet are down right terrifying and involve globs of mayo. And no nit comb needed! Which if your daughter has long thick hair like mine, you will understand what an amazing feat that is.
I actually keep this next to the back door and spray backpacks when they come home and as well as hair just in case we have any hitchhikers.
