The majority of jobs come with vacation time or at least occasional time off. Well, all jobs except motherhood that is. And as you all are well aware the pay is also subpar. And yet here we are day after day showing up with our game face on and ready to try to earn Employee of the Month. This is why a vacation for moms should be mandatory. You need to grab your girlfriends and hit the road. It doesn’t need to be in a yacht in the Mediterranean either, but if you can swing that I totally would.
Living in Nashville it seems like this is the perfect destination for ladies to get away for a couple days and relax and unwind. But if you live here you would know it is crazy on the weekend and since I am no longer in my wearing bachelorette sashes in public stage, I am always on the hunt for close weekend getaways.
Memphis is on the Map
Fun fact about me, I grew up in Memphis. I graduated from high school but left for college and only came back for holidays and summers so I didn’t really get to explore Memphis and because I was from there I was always looking to go elsewhere. I recently got the chance to be hit the road in a Mazda6 for Memphis with two of my Nashville favorites, Greta and Rachel and explore all the new fun places that make Memphis an amazing destination for your next girls trip.
Stay – Hotel Napolean
Let’s talk location. Just four blocks from the Mississippi River and historic Beale Street allows you to walk to a ton of food, shopping, and entertainment. Besides location, the character and amenities are what sold me next. The exterior of the building has been restored to its original glory and the interior has been outfitted in a contemporary design with touches of marble, wood, glass, and stainless steel that accentuate the historical design elements. I mean check out that room with a view.
Eats
This is where Memphis really impressed me. They are no longer BBQ and Blues destination. When we arrived in the city limits, our first stop was the Gray Canary. The Gray Canary is located in The Old Dominick Distillery in the South Main Arts District of Downtown Memphis. Our experience began unique cocktails recipes all developed in-house, next a raw bar, then extended to the wood fire kitchen where the chefs cooked food that was fun, exciting, and beautiful. From shareables to vegetable-focused dishes, to large format protein, to flaming desserts, the meal did not disappoint.
Tons of green space and a reclaimed waterway, Loflin Yard, was an amazing chill natural retreat in the heart of Downtown Memphis.
