I am being compensated by Febreze In-Wash Odor Eliminator for this post but the content and opinions are of course my own.
New Year. New Me.
That is probably the most overused saying in January. But for good reason. With a new year comes new hopes, new dreams, new goals. And in order to reach those, you sometimes have to do some soul-searching and figure out where you fell short last year from hitting these goals because let’s be honest if you are anything like me your resolutions are kind of similar year after year. The dreams get bigger and more unattainable, and the goals get a reset but they are just repackaged with a shiny new bow in Pantone Color of the Year.
So this year for me is going to be a little different. I’m choosing fewer goals to start out with and I have deadlines for these goals. Â Along with deadlines, I have daily disciplines (there’s an app for that) that will make it easier to reach these goals in the allotted time.
As a mom of two girls, I am super aware of the things I say in front of them in regards to my health and fitness journey. Thankfully I have found a sport to participate in that puts zero emphasis on losing weight. Instead, we strive daily to get stronger, faster, more limber. So this year let’s all commit to dropping the “lose weight” resolution. Instead, here are the things I am going to do daily that have nothing to do with weight.
- Stretch More
- You can move better when you are more limber. Not to mention, injury goes down allowing you to continue.
- Do Things You Aren’t Good At
- I’m strong so I have always concentrated on strength workouts. Obviously not getting better at cardio. So this year I will cardio more.
- Write It Down
- It’s easier to see progress when you can see where you came from. Writing down helps to keep you accountable.
- Move Every Day
- Some days are hard. Some days you want to not leave the bed. Get up and move. Take the dog for a walk or the kids to a jumpy house and join in.
- Meditate
- By focusing your attention in order to find calm and clear, your goals and sets to get there don’t get clouded.
- Sleep More
- Your body needs sleep to recover and build. Make sure you are getting plenty or you will see it in your food choices.
Now if you have known me IRL, you know I have always been active. So you are probably thinking, “well this is easy for you because you love it.” Â Although health and wellness have been a part of my life since I was little, it is not necessarily a passion of mine that I wake up excited about, it is more something that I know I need to do and helps me mentally and physically.
Other than personal satisfaction, I do have more skin in the game this year. As some of you know my husband and I, along with some friends, opened CrossFit Wilco at the end of 2017. So I now have a vested interested in my health. I have a community of people to do this with. And that’s what I need. As long as I am in town, I’m committing to being there 5-6 times a week. I don’t dread it. And hello, child care room. It also serves as my much-needed mom break.
Now that I have committed to 5-6 days of gym time, it’s more important to feed my body the right way, drink more water, get more sleep, and getting better organized is now even more important due to the influx of dirty laundry and less time in the day. Thanks to Febreze In-Wash Odor Eliminator laundry days don’t stink as much as they used to (see what I did there?)
Now I can eliminate odor after each wear, instead of masking it like others do. This allows me to wear my gym clothes to the grocery store after exercising or even a playdate without feeling self-conscious. Remember how I mentioned laundry isn’t my thing? I can’t tell you how many times I start laundry and then forget about it. So workout clothes that are dirty get washed, smells get masked, then they sit in the wash for two days.  Well, Febreze In-Wash Odor Eliminator wants to help me protect those yoga pants I use for everything but yoga and eliminates the mildew smell as well as perspiration. The best part is I can grab  Febreze In-Wash Odor Eliminator from Amazon and get FREE Prime Shipping.
I get up and go for my morning walk EVERYDAY
I drink plenty of water each day-never eat anything after 6pm and I also walk everyday for 10 minutes-weather permitting of course. I also have vitamins every morning.
I have fruit and veggies already cut up in the frig. So when I want a snack, there is always something healthy to nosh on.
My husband and I have cut the carbs, and in the past 18 months, have lost 65 and 55 pounds, respectively! We have our cheat days (which are necessary), but for the most part, we follow a strict low-carb diet. It has really worked for us and we couldn’t be more proud! We also mix in some physical activity with walking for fitness and mountain/trail biking!
Check out the web for low-carb and/or keto recipes to find a good starting place for yourself and change your life!
Stay healthy by making a conscious effort to ALWAYS take steps over using elevator not matter how many flights.
I am absolutely excited about this! I definitely want in, ASAP!!
My healthy tip is to keep active doing what you do. Instead of the sit on lawn mower, use the push one, way more calories and energy burnt!.
Meal planning really helps to maintain healthy, balanced meals.
We have been making better eating choices. Planning out meals, making snacks into serving size, and drinking pretty much only water.
After severe spinal injury doctors says “a body in motion..stays in motion” work through the pain! Keep moving! My laundry tip..put fabric softener sheets in between clothes in dresser drawers! Keeps them smelling AMAZING for a long time! Loved this blog!
Meal prepping is key! I cook for the week on Sunday. Yes – it’s time consuming on Sunday, BUT totally makes up for it throughout the week. And I have no excuse to grab fast food or make unhealthy choices!
be sure and wear sunscreen everyday of the year, even in the winter or cloudy days. step away from the pc at least every hour, get up and walk. park your car in the furthest space and walk to the store, also take the steps instead of the elevator.
I bought a FitBit and have the goal of 10,000 steps a day! It sounds easy, but it’s not. I have to make a real effort to get there.
Not really a health tip, but now that the crazy summer activities are almost over, I am making a bigger effort to cook meals at home. This definitely makes it easier to eat healthier when we aren’t eating at the concession stands or fast food in a hurry! The sleep factor is also a big deal! I am looking forward to getting back to a routine with school starting so I can start getting more sleep…and it turn, making a better impact on my overall health.
My healthy tip is to keep track of calories, that way I can burn the amount I need to and keep a healthy balance in my body, no unnecessary fats!!
Love your neighbour as you love yourself. Cooperate with others rather than compare yourself and compete with them, and you will be filled with love, joy and peace and serenity.
Water Water Water… it is your best friend.
I used to like listening to Wilco.
I get up every morning at 5:30 a.m. how to get my cardio in, and pair myself for my 8 to 6 job helping children and families. What a great way to show off the fresh smell of Febreze..
Cardio at 5:30 every morning and plenty of water.
Cardio at 5:30 every morning followed by 30 minute walk and plenty of water.

Drink iced water at home and on the go. Very refreshing, healthy and helps with loosing weight.
Eat fresh vegetables, fruits and more home cooked meals. Exercise with walking, climbing stairs
and stretches!! And I’m 72!!
I try to stay hydrated
I get 2 ~ 15 min breaks and 1 hour lunch at work… so I take this time to go for walks outside or on the treadmill at work.. I do this 5 x’s a week .. it’s my time away from work to regroup, it’s a full body, mind and soul work out! I work in a high stress environment and you can never do to much to take care of yourself! I eat healthy no refined sugars & only drink water and green tea, these are the little things I can do everyday that with out too much effort and will make the difference on a day to day basis!!!
Such a great daily treat that I bet you look forward to! Keep it up
I take care of me; walking, meditation and just breathing!
I need to do more of that!
